The New Year can lead to a new you.

"January is no doubt... Our best month," Anthony De La Garza, general manager at Max Fitness in Harlingen said.

The foot frenzies on treadmills across the gym signal the first step for many towards achieving their New Year's resolution to get in shape.

"This new year I want to start coming to the gym at least 5 days a week," Rigo Avila, a gym attendee said.

"To lose weight," Amparo Martinez, a gym attendee said.

Many begin with optimism.

"I'm not getting any younger," Rigo said.

"Think you'll stick to it," Action 4's Ryan Wolf asked?

"Oh yea," Rigo responded.

But it's not long before trainers say most end up dropping out.

"I'd say March... No doubt is when they quit," Anthony explained.

So how do you avoid this happening to you?

Trainers say in order to make that resolution stick for the New Year; you have to stay the course.

Anthony, a former Mr. Texas body building champ and certified trainer, urges newcomers to start slow with realistic goals.

"You may not do it everyday... But as long as you strive to keep it consistent... You'll always continue to improve," he said.

He says it also helps to pick an exercise you like.

If you want muscles, hit the weights.

If you like to run, hit the treadmill.

You just have to get started.

"You want to participate in something you love," Anthony said.  "Whether it's Zumba... Whether it's a trainer... You've got to love it... You've got to look forward to working out."

It's that passion and desire that will ultimately lead you to results.
