A Brownsville is behind bars after a domestic violence incident involving his common law wife and 8-month-old baby.

Brownsville police arrested 26-year-old Benito Alvarado on multiple criminal charges early Monday morning.

Investigators said it all started when Alvarado wanted to be intimate with his common law wife but she didn’t want to.

Alvarado allegedly react by pulling out a switch blade and threatened her with it.

The Brownsville man allegedly held her down by the neck while the woman’s 8-month-old baby was next to her.

Officers charged Alvarado with assault by strangulation, unlawful restraint and child endangerment.

Alvarado appeared before a Brownsville municipal judge on Monday morning where he was issued $8,500 dollars in bonds.
