Brownsville Fire Station Number Two was left unmanned Saturday afternoon.
Brownsville Fire Chief Lenny Perez said too many Brownsville firefighters called in sick.
As a result, he said he had to move firefighters from that location to make up for lack of firefighters at other stations.
Perez said he and the assistant fire chief are trying to call other firefighters into work but are having trouble finding anyone.
Brownsville's Fire Station Number Two is located at 536 West Saint Charles Street.
Action 4 News received a call from someone claiming to work there.
He did not want to leave his name but said the unmanned station put Brownsville residents in the station's area at risk.
Chief Perez responded by saying firefighters should not be complaining.
"This is their own doing," said Perez.
Perez said personnel could return to the station by today if he finds others to work.
Perez said seven firefighters called in.
