Starr County arson suspect caught in Houston

A Starr County man wanted for starting a house fire where two children were injured spent two years on the run but is now behind bars in Houston.

Authorities first featured Martin Mejorado on the Action 4 News series “Fugitive Finder” back in August 2010.

He's wanted on five active warrants including attempted capital murder, arson, injury to a child and failure to appear.

Mejorado is accused of starting an August 2009 fire at a randomly-selected home in Starr County.

Starr County Sheriff’s Office deputies he doused the home with gasoline and set it on fire even thought there was a family inside.

Two children were injured while Mejorado manage to get away.

Deputies said they got a tip that Mejorado had been living in Houston and contacted the U.S. Marshalls.

Authorities arrested the Starr County man at 150 West Mount Houston Road in north Houston around 1:40 p.m. Wednesday.

He’s now facing extradition back to the Rio Grande Valley.
