The attack on Pearl Harbor remains an infamous day in history.
Action 4 News spoke to one man who said he’ll never forget that fateful day.
It’s a day that continues to live in infamy: December 7, 1941 the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
"It's to remember what happened, and it could happen again," said Clyde Eidson.
That attack killed over 2,300 Americans and brought the United States into World War II.
“They dropped torpedoes, and that's what sank all the ships," said Eidson.
Eighty-eight-year-old Eidson remembers it as if it were yesterday.
"I was scared,” he said. “I thought the next one they're going to drop is going to be on me."
The former navy seaman was on his submarine base on pearl harbor that fateful day.
"They went right over the submarine base and bombed Fort Island which was an island in the center of the harbor there," said Eidson.
He took part in the fighting as soon as the U.S. entered the war and fought in the Battle of Midway.
"And we caught them, and they paid a price," said Eidson.
He retired from the navy in 1970, and since the war ended, he hasn't gone back to Hawaii.
"I was there for a year and a half before the Japanese attacked, and I thought I found heaven,” he said. “It was just such a nice place. It was just beautiful, but of course it turned into an armed camp starting on the 7th of December."
The former navy seaman showed Action 4 News memorabilia from World War II, and even showed us a grave marker he was given.
"To put on your grave when you die," said Eidson.
But Eidson is just shy of turning 89, and said he doesn’t plan on that anytime soon.
Eidson turns 89 in January, and he said he hopes to spend it with family in San Antonio.
