Day care evacuated following Mercedes warehouse fire

Firefighters battled a massive warehouse fire in Mercedes.

Investigators told Action 4 News a storage warehouse located on First and Virginia Street caught fire around 1:15pm on Tuesday.

The flames quickly spread threatening a nearby daycare called Auntie Ann’s Playhouse.

The owner of the day care told Action 4 News ten children were inside when they evacuated.  

All have been picked up by their parents, but one.

Firefighters from Mercedes, Weslaco and La Feria were still on scene at 1:45pm trying to control the blaze.

The cause is unknown.

Traffic is being diverted in that area.
