A Harlingen teen is behind bars after he and another suspect allegedly beat up a man at Pendleton Park, took his car and kidnapped him.

Harlingen police have arrested 17-year-old Carlos Alberto Pineyro, Jr. on aggravated kidnapping and robbery charges on Friday.

It all stemmed from an incident that happened at Harlingen's Pendleton Park around 11:45 p.m. Sunday.

A 24-year-old man told police that Pineyro and another suspect beat him up, took his wallet and car keys.

Pineyro and the other suspect forced the man into his black 2006 Ford Fusion and drove heading south on 77 Sunshine Strip.

The man bailed out of the car near McKelvey Park and ran to a nearby store where he called for help.

Police found the man's car abandoned on the 100 block of West Grande Avenue around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

An investigation lead to Pineyro as a suspect.

The 17-year-old confessed to the crime but it's not clear how of if Pineyro and the other suspect knew the victim.

Public records show that members of Pineyro's family live at an apartment complex off North 7th Street and Tumbleweed Drive.

The second suspect remains at large but Pineyro appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Saturday morning.

The teen remains in custody under $250,000 dollars in bonds.
