A San Benito boy is the most recent victim in a string of teen suicides.

He was found by neighbor with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Police are not releasing too many details about the 15-year-old's death but the neighbor found his body laying along a canal bank on Saturday.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at about about 11 a.m. that day.

Police said a .22-caliber pistol was found near the body.

San Benito Police Chief Martin Morales said they've ordered an autopsy and final results should arrive in a couple of weeks.

Psychotherapist Dr. Susan G. Ander told Action 4 News that are warning signs parents can look out for.

“As teens it doesn't take much to get the hormones flowing, to get the adrenaline flowing,” Dr. Ander said. “Commitments are made, things are said and relationships just proceed at a mich faster pace than they have ever before.”

Dr. Ander said statistics show the rate of suicide is far higher in men than in women.

Action 4 News spoke to San Benito CISD spokeswoman Celia Longoria.

She said the teen is a former student at San Benito High School and was not enrolled at the time of his death.

At this time investigators, have not ruled out foul play either as they wait for autopsy results.

About four weeks ago, a member of the La Grulla High School football team also took his own life.

If you or anyone you know or are in need of help or someone to talk to, called the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at (800) 273-8255.
