A man who escaped from an federal prison camp near El Paso more than 25 years ago is now behind bars in the Rio Grande Valley.
Federal court records show that U.S. Marshalls took custody of 69-year-old Leal Leal-Lindolfo in Brownsville over the weekend.
The records show that Leal-Lindolfo escaped from the La Tuna Federal Prison Camp in Anthony, New Mexico back on Valetine’s Day in 1986.
Leal-Lindolfo had a been on the run ever since but the court records show he was arrested at an international bridge in Brownsville on Friday.
The 69-year-old fugitive appeared before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge Felix Recio in Brownsville on Tuesday morning.
Leal-Lindolfo waived an identity hearing clearing the way for his extradition back to El Paso.
