Hidalgo County leaders decided, in a 3 to 2 vote, to abolish the Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace and Constable's offices located in the Delta area.
Dozens of residents came out to voice their concerns about the abolishment—but despite those attempts the Precinct is no more.
"They're eliminating the only two positions that represent that part of the county over there,” Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace ‘Speedy’ Jackson said. “That's the only thing we have over there right now."
Jackson said, for years, the Delta area has been neglected by the county.
"The services haven't been there to do the infrastructure so we can grow," Jackson said.
Jackson told Action 4 News he is worried what will happened once their only source of representation is taken away.
The Precinct 5 Constable’s position will be terminated at the end of his term in 2012. As for Jackson’s position---Justice of the Peace will be eliminated at the end of his term in 2014.
