Two people are facing felony charges Friday after leading authorities on a high-speed chase.

At 9:45 p.m. Thursday night, U.S. Border Patrol spotted a suspicious vehicle along the Rio Grande Valley.

According to reports, authorities could visibly see bundles of drugs loaded into the bed of a black truck.

Palmview Police and federal agents tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop.

Police said both agencies chose to disengage once the pursuit got close to a busy area.

Minutes later, the driver of the black vehicle was involved in a major accident on FM 492 and expressway 83.

The drive hit another vehicle and attempted to run from police and scratched his face in a brushy area.

In the end, police arrested the driver, Americo Canales, and one juvenile, and seized 652 pounds of marijuana.

Canales faces aggravated assault charges, possession of marijuana and evading arrest charges.

Charges for the juvenile are still pending.

The passengers in the other vehicle were injured, but are said to be doing ok.
