Last year, a woman’s life was cut short by a drunk driver.

Wednesday, he was sentenced, but the family is not satisfied with the outcome.

The last year and a half has been an emotional rollercoaster for Dalia Morin’s family as they try to come to terms with her untimely death.

Elena Luna lost her sister Dalia Morin to a drunk driving accident in April of last year in Progresso.

"Be careful with your families because this is happening every weekend," said Luna.

Wednesday morning, Luna addressed Refugio Esqueda, the man convicted of taking Dalia's life.

She spoke of Dalia's warm spirit and how she was always ready to help people during difficult times.

"We can't bring her back," said Dalia’s youngest sister Veronica Carranza. "I used to think that the worst kind of nightmare you could have is that somebody died, but the worse nightmare you could have is that you dream somebody died and you wake up and it's so."

Carranza said she hopes her sister didn't die in vain.

"We're hoping that the public raises awareness about drunken driving that the police do their work and that people don't have to suffer through this again like we did," said Carranza.

Esqueda was sentenced to 10 years with the possibility of parole.

"Now he's got the possibility of coming back, and I anticipate he will be released in the next 3, 4 or 5 months," said Rick Salinas, Esqueda’s attorney.

Dalia's family doesn't believe justice has been served.

"I honestly believe that because it's a habitual crime, he's going to come back and do the same thing again," said Luna.

But Luna said justice will come when he's in the afterlife.

Dalia’s family said it only takes an instant for a drunk driver to destroy an entire family’s life.

They ask that if you drink, that you have a designated driver.
