Brownsville firefighters confirm a six-year-old boy is dead.

He reportedly drowned in a resaca at the Brownsville Sports Park after 3:00 Sunday afternoon.

Authorities said his three-year-old sister was also pulled from the resaca.

Her condition is unknown at this time.

The fire department confirmed both were taken to Valley Regional Medical Center unresponsive.

Authorities said the six-year-old boy and three-year-old girl were brother and sister.

They told Action 4 News the two wandered from their family at a picnic area to the resaca.

People in the area reportedly pulled them from the water and tried giving CPR.

Police are reportedly questioning family members.
