An American citizen has been confirmed among 20 people killed in a prison brawl south of the border in Matamoros.
The deadly inmate fight left 20 dead and 12 injured in the CEDES prison early Saturday morning.
There is a good number of American citizens housed at the prison for crimes they committed in Mexico.
Action 4 News contacted the American Consulate in Matamoros.
Initial reports on Saturday showed no Americans among the causalities or injured.
But new information released to the American Consulate on Sunday shows there was indeed at least one American citizen among the dead.
Consulate officials said they could not release information about the American inmate due to privacy concerns.
Action 4 News will provide more information as it becomes available.
