At least three Cameron County beaches will remain closed on Columbus Day.

Cameron County officials shut down South Padre Island's Beach Access 5 and 6 as well as Boca Chica Beach on Sunday.

Officials told Action 4 News that the closures were weather-related due to high tides, dangerous driving conditions and rip currents.

County Judge Carlos Cascos has asked law enforcement to assist in making sure these accesses remain closed until further notice.

The closure came as part of a weather system that brought heavy rains and severe weather to the Rio Grand Valley.

Officials told Action 4 News that Boca Chica Beach and Beach Access 5 and 6 will remain closed on Monday.

Cameron County officials said the worst tides and rip currents will be at their worst on Monday.

Authorities will reassess beach conditions on Tuesday.
