Rosendo Blanco has lived with his family at his home on Dana Drive, just outside Mission, for over 20 years.
He said he had just left his home Saturday morning and was at a stop sign, when he looked through his rearview mirror and noticed an unfamiliar vehicle pulling-up to his house.
Blanco decided to turn back to check out the visitors. He said that decision possibly saved his family's life.
"(Two men) were armed with 45-caliber guns,” Blanco said. “It was four young men, but only two got off the truck and went inside the house. They weren't wearing masks."
According to Hidalgo County authorities, the men were looking for drugs and money, but found nothing and only made-off with a cell phone.
Blanco said when the men saw him driving towards the house, they made a run for it.
He said he still wasn’t sure about what had just happened at his home, but decided to follow the armed men.
"They started shooting at me, but they didn’t hit me,” Blanco said. “Luckily a sheriff deputy was in the area and he continued to follow them."
Sheriff Lupe Treviño said the suspects led authorities on a chase that ended at Mile 8 Road and Abrams Road.
There the four men jumped out of the car, the sheriff said, and ran into a wooded area.
Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers, U.S. Border Patrol, a helicopter, horse patrol and a K-9, all helped in the search.
However, Treviño said, only two of the suspects were found and arrested.
Blanco said he doesn't understand why his home would be a target.
"We've never had anything like this happen before,” he said.
He adds that although his family was not hurt, they are left with a lot of fear.
"I don't think anyone will be staying here at the house alone,” Blanco said.
