For the second time this week, a Rio Grande Valley family gathered to lay their loved one to rest.

Staff Sergeant Estevan Altamirano died last week while overseas.

Wednesday, many came together for one last final goodbye.

Altamirano served three tours oversees in Iraq and was about to start his fourth and final tour when he died while cleaning a weapon September 18.

His life was celebrated with a ceremony, then his remains were taken to his final resting place at the State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.

As the family showed a slide show presentation, you could hear his wife crying softly in the background.

It's a heart ache his family is trying to cope with.

Members of the community, both friends and strangers were present to show their support.

"They are very much hurt and sad," said Rey Oropez with the Hidalgo County Veterans Services. "You choke up when you talk to them."

The Altamirano family said he will be forever missed because he was a great father, husband and a true hero.
