A federal judge sentenced a former federal probation officer to 14 years in prison for leaking confidential information to drug traffickers.

Armando Mora appeared for sentencing before U.S. District Court Judge Hilda Tagle in Brownsville on Monday morning.

The former federal probation officer pleaded guilty to bribery and conspiracy drug charges back in December 2009 but his sentencing had been delayed until Monday.

The 38-year-old Edinburg admitted to taking $5,000 dollars in bribes from drug traffickers in exchange for confidential information.

Authorities seized more than 4,200 pounds of marijuana and 582 pounds of cocaine in connection to the case.

Judge Tagle allowed Mora to remain free on bond until his prison assignment has been made.
