A 20-year-old man is in the hospital after being shot during a drive by shooting in Alamo.

Alamo police said the man was outside of his apartment complex on Birch Street when the gunfire started.
Investigator said the man was shot once and taken to a local hospital where he is being treated for his injury.

Police continue to hunt for the shooter.

Those who live in the apartment complex now question their safety.

The holes that pierce 'Maria's' small apartment are a reminder of just how close she was to losing her children Monday night.

"I was waking up the kids to make sure they were alive," Maria said. "I had to make sure they hadn't been shot."

Her children were not harmed but Maria remains on edge.

"I'm scared just really nervous."

She was not home at the time of the shooting. She was not there to protect her family.

Her daughter failed to tell her the news.

"I was at work when my daughter told me there was shooting," Maria said. "She told me the policemen were here because of the shooting. I came fast but the street was already closed."

'Maria' said when she finally made it through the barricaded street she was not prepared for what she saw.

"There was blood everywhere."

It was a sight that shook 'Maria' to the core.

This young mother of four said she never experienced any problems while she lived on Birch Street and hopes to never experience something like that again.
