The body of Army Sgt. Rodolfo Rodriguez Jr. of Weslaco is back in the United States.
The soldier was killed in Afghanistan Wednesday.
A U.S. Army carry team transferred his remains from an airplane at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware early Friday morning to an awaiting car, according to Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations.
Officials told Action 4 News the body would then be taken to the Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs where the remains will be positively identified.
It will be up to the family to decide where Rodriguez is laid to rest.
Family told Action 4 News they intend to have Rodriguez's body flown back to the Rio Grande Valley.
They said they hope to hold funeral services for him at Guerra Funeral Home in Weslaco.
Family said they are still unsure when Rodriguez's remains will arrive in the Rio Grande Valley.
