Starr County officials confirmed that Precinct 4 Commissioner Abel Gonzalez died early
Wednesday morning of a massive heart attack.

Starr County Judge Eloy Vera said Gonzalez was a good man who did many great things for his community.

Vera said for 12 years he served alongside Gonzalez and was witness to the many projects he completed within his precinct.

One of those was purchasing new and better fire equipment for local departments.

"He bought several brush trucks for the brush fires that we've been experiencing," Vera said.

"He opened a satellite fire department in the area--so they could better respond to fires in the community."

Vera said they will post the funeral arrangements for Gonzalez on the county website and their Facebook page.
