City commissioner Jessica Tetreau is looking to take action against the Brownsville Police Department.

An police officer arrested Tetreau on a domestic violence charge early Saturday morning after an argument with her husband.

Tetreau posted a $5,000 dollar bond a few hours later.

She’s not commenting publicly on the case but is maintaining her innocence.

Brownsville Police Chief Carlos Garcia released the following statement on Tuesday.

Chief Garcia's Statement:

The Brownsville Police Department takes acts of family violence seriously and adheres to the requirements set forth by the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, which requires that Texas Peace Officers “shall” arrest person or persons, where probable cause exists for the offense of family violence. This case just like every family violence case handled by the Brownsville Police Department will be submitted to the Cameron County District Attorney's Office for their review and determination of right or refusal to prosecute.

Mrs. Jessica Tetreau Kalifa has visited with me today and voiced her concerns about how her arrest was handled. She has been offered the opportunity to file an official complaint as to the conduct of the arresting officer. An administrative inquiry will be conducted to determine if the complaint can be sustained.

The Brownsville Police Department will not make any further comments on this arrest.
