A South Texas native is featured in this month's edition of Rolling Stone magazine but not for his musical talent.

Laredo's Edgar Valdez-Villarreal, who goes by the alias “La Barbie," is featured a story entitled "American Drug Lord.”

The former high school football player graduated from Laredo United and went on to lead a violent Mexican drug cartel.

Valdez-Villarreal has been indicted on multiple criminal charges in Mexico.

But the Laredo native is also facing extradition back to the United States.

The Rolling Stone article features interviews with his father and others who knew him before he become a feared drug lord.
