Fire destroys children’s school clothes and supplies, family asking for donations

Electrical and code violations are being blamed for causing a fire that ripped through a Harlingen home Wednesday.

Esmerelda Gonzalez and her children were displaced as a result of the fire.

With school starting Monday, Gonzalez said she needs help getting back what the fire destroyed.

"Furniture, all their toys, all their clothes,” said Gonzalez.  “It's like mainly everything.  My clothes.  My shoes."

The Harlingen Fire Department is collecting donations for the family.

Donations can be dropped off at any Harlingen fire department.

Gonzalez gave Action 4 News the follow clothing sizes for her children.

Boy, 8-years-old, clothing size 9-10, shoes 4-5.

Girl, 7-years-old, clothing size 6-7, shoes 13.

Girl, 4-years-old, clothing size 4-5, shoes 9-10.

Girl, 1-year-old, clothing size 24 months.

Mother, clothing size 5.
