A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) employee from Brownsville is suspended amid allegations he improperly issued drivers licenses to at least two people.

Texas Rangers have filed multiple criminal charges against 28-year-old DPS employee Jesus Alberto Garza.

Investigators confirmed that the 28-year-old man worked at the DPS Driver’s License Office in Brownsville.

Court records show that Garza issued a driver’s license to a woman who lives with him.

Investigators allege that Garza did not properly upload all the required documents for a driver’s license into a DPS computer system.

Garza is also accused of issuing a Texas identification card to a man who was using somebody else’s social security number.

DPS regional spokesman Johnny Hernandez confirmed that Garza worked at the driver’s license office in Brownsville and is suspended amid an internal investigation.

Jail records show that Garza is charged with misuse of official information, tampering with government records and abuse of official capacity.

Garza appeared before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Patricia Edelstein on Friday morning.

Records show that Garza’s last known address was listed off East 12th Street and the frontage road of U.S. Expressway 77/83 in Brownsville.

Judge Edelstein issued $32,500 dollars in bonds for Garza.
