Authorities are investigating the death of a man who died after a brawl outside a downtown McAllen nightclub.

It all happened on the 100 block of South 17th Street around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that it started with a street brawl outside the Le Rouge night club.

Police said a man was pushed and injured.

Paramedics rushed the man to a local hospital where he died.

The incident is the latest act of violence in the 17th Street night club district and those who frequent the area want to see more police protection.

"I think its important that they keep these streets safe because you don't know the kind of people you have walking around," Fernando Lopez said.

Lopez said increased patrol could curb some of the violence--but said the McAllen can only do so much against a growing number of people looking to lose their inhibitions.

"It's not fair to blame the city," Lopez said. "It's probably difficult to control what goes on in all of the businesses down here."

As for the victim in this weekends incident, police said they are just waiting on the autopsy results.

fatal stabbing was reported in the district back in January while a double shooting happened in December.

Another incident involved a video posted to YouTube where several women were recorded involved in an all-out brawl on the sidewalk.

Action 4 News will provide more information as it becomes available.
