Workforce Solutions has started the process of closing the Pharr Workforce Center.

Chief Executive Officer for Workforce Solutions, Yvonne Gonzalez said, "The very sad reality with today's budget situation is that entities like us are taking huge budget hits."

Workforce Solutions took almost a $13-million dollar hit this fiscal year. They said tough decisions had to be made and closing the Pharr Center was one of them.

"It has been a very difficult decision for us...but one that has been necessitated by the budget cuts."

The Pharr Workforce Center reported assisting close to 14,000 customers and over 70,000 repeat customers last fiscal year.

"Those centers are critically important....critically important," Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez said the Pharr closure will not affect operations and no one has been laid off. She said those who work in the Pharr Center will be placed in other workforce centers throughout the Valley.
