A Harlingen firefighter is out on bond after being accused for causing a DWI wreck where a woman was hospitalized.
Harlingen police arrested 33-year-old Victor Edmundo Orozco on an intoxication assault charge late Sunday night.
Investigators told Action 4 News Orozco is accused of being intoxicated when his truck rear-ended and SUV on South Ed Carey Drive.
Paramedics rushed both Orozco and an injured 31-year-old woman in the SUV to the Valley Baptist Medical Center for medical treatment.
Orozco was charged after being released from the hospital.
The 33-year-old firefighter appeared before a municipal judge on Tuesday morning where he was issued a $10,000 dollar bond.
Harlingen Fire Chief Michael Rinaldi could not be reached for comment but spoke to the Valley Morning Star newspaper about the chase.
Rinaldi told the Harlingen-based newspaper that Orozco had worked for his agency for several years.
The fire chief told the Valley Morning Star that administrators would investigate the matter and decide if there would be any disciplinary action.
An Action 4 News investigation back in Novemer 2010 revealed that many Rio Grande Valley firefighters have a criminal past that includes DWI.
