A Cuban man is behind bars after being arrested for robbing two banks in downtown Brownsville over the past month.
Brownsville police arrested 44-year-old Rafael Pedrez at his East Adams Street home on Wednesday morning.
Pedrez, who goes by the nickname “El Cubano,” is accused of robbing two downtown Brownsville banks.
Investigators told Action 4 News that tips allowed police to identify Pedrez as the suspect of a July 18th robbery at the First National Bank off East Levee Street.
Police found cash and clothes used by the robbery suspect at Pedrez’s home.
The 44-year-old Cuban man allegedly admitted to robbing a Compass Bank off East Elizabeth Street back on July 5th.
Pedrez is expected to face a Brownsville municipal judge on two counts of aggravated robbery Thursday morning.
With the arrests, Brownsville police have solved four out of four bank robberies reported in the past six weeks.
Brownsville police arrested Michael Ruiz for robbing a Wells Fargo bank on Monday.
Eric Gabriel Morales was arrested in Iowa after robbing the same First National Bank as Pedrez back on June 3rd.
