Over 500 educators lined up outside the Region One offices in Edinburg in hopes of getting a face-to-face meeting with potential employers.

It wasn't only the unemployed looking for a job.

There were also educators looking to relocate and first-time teachers ready to get their feet wet.

"There's a lot of opportunity, but there's a lot of people looking for a teaching position," said Jessica Nañez.

Nañez said she was a teacher in Mexico but is ready to make the move and find a teaching job here.

"I''m starting to get my certification here," she said.

She's not alone, many job seekers at the Region One Education Service Center job fair were first-time teachers, looking to relocate, or unemployed.

"I got laid off the last day of June," said Arturo Martinez.

Martinez said he's been applying to different districts since his layoff and the uncertainty has him stressed.

"Stressful as in when am I going to receive the call?…am I going to receive the call? Things like that," said Martinez.

Martinez said he's had to move back in with family since his layoff and is trying anything to get back in the swing of things.

"I have to do my best to sell myself in order to get a job somewhere," said Martinez, which is why he is here at the job fair to meet face-to-face with potential employers.

There were over 500 applicants and some waited in line for over 2 hours to see recruiters.

Martinez said his wait was an hour and a half, but he said it was worth the wait.

"We're trying to get a position as soon as possible before the beginning of the school year. We still have hope," he said.

And as schools battle budget cuts that aren't finalized yet, Martinez like the over 500 job seekers at the job fair, battle to stay in the job market.

There were 12 districts present at the job fair and 2 charter schools.
