At least seven prisoners are dead and 59 have escaped following a violent brawl between inmates at a prison in Nuevo Laredo.
It all happened at the CEDES No. 2 prison in Nuevo Laredo on Friday.
Tamaulipas state officials confirmed the deadly jail break in a statement released on Friday afternoon.
Authorities confirmed that situation is under control but when the smoke cleared seven prisoners were dead.
State officials reported that 59 prisoners had escaped and five jailers abandoned their posts.
Soldiers with the Mexican army and federal police responded to the scene to help with security and look for the escapees and jailers who abandoned their posts.
Authorities did not release the names of the escapees or jailers but reported 35 of the inmates were federal prisoners while the other 24 were being held on state charges.
