Back in January several people were taken into custody for allegedly bringing items such as ballistic helmets, ammunition, and tactical boots into Mexico and into the hands of the Gulf Cartel.
On Thursday the boots seized were handed out to members of the San Juan Tactical Patrol Unit.
Normally, officers would have to buy their own boots—that could cost them $100 of their own money.
But this seizure has allowed the department to give their team the boots—free of charge.
"We got every officers size to make sure every officer in the street of San Juan had their tactical boots...a good quality boot," San Juan Police Chief Juan Gonzalez said.
Chief Gonzalez told Action 4 News that all of the boots seized were one size—so a company in Austin agreed to take those boots in exchange for the sizes the department needed.
The helmets seized were given out to other agencies in the Valley.
