An Edinburg police officer is on administrative leave without pay after the department received a complaint of possible police misconduct.
Action 4 News learned that the officer pulled over an 18-year-old woman for driving without her headlights over the weekend.
The woman claims the patrol officer and offered to give her a warning instead of a ticket if she followed him to a secluded parking lot.
The officer allegedly got into her car and tried to kiss her.
Edinburg Police Chief Rolando Castañeda announced that the agency’s Internal Affairs Unit and the Texas Rangers have launched an investigation into the matter.
Castañeda said his agency cannot confirm or deny those allegations because the case is under investigation.
But Castañeda confirmed that the allegations were brought forward on Sunday.
"The Edinburg Police Department prides itself with honesty, loyalty and integrity and serving the community on a professional level,” Castañeda said during a Monday morning press conference. “Therefore, any type of misconduct by officers or staff cannot and will not be tolerated."
Chief Castañeda said if the investigation reveals that there were administrative or criminal violations committed by the officer, appropriate action will be taken.
The officers name is not being released at this time but Castañeda said more information should be released once the investigation comes to a close.
