A Brownsville father is facing criminal charges after he allegedly left son in car to go drinking inside a local bar.

Brownsville police arrested 46-year-old Jose Alvaro Dorsett on a multiple criminal charges early Friday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that officers were called out to the 3100 block of East 14th Street to investigate an aggravated assault just before midnight Thursday.

An officer noticed movement inside a Jeep Liberty parked outside a bar and found a 9-year-old boy inside.

The officer found driver’s side window was rolled down and the boy reading a book.

Dorsett walked out of the 123 Lounge and appeared intoxicated with blood shot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.

Investigators said Dorsett tried to give a fake name.

The officer arrested Dorsett under child abandonment, failure to identify and public intoxication charges.

Dorsett appeared before a Brownsville municipal judge on Friday morning where he was issued $7,500 dollars in bonds.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the boy was turned over to the custody of his mother.

Police said she allowed the her husband to take the boy but was not aware Dorsett was headed to the bar.
