Kitchen cops made a shocking discovery inside the kitchen area of a Weslaco Stripes convenience store.
A health report indicated dead mice were found at the Stripes location on 1919 West Highway 83.
The city’s chief health inspector told the Food Patrol that rodent droppings and urine were found on bags of candy, chips and dry products in storage.
The business was busted with 48 demerits on an initial health inspection and ordered shutdown.
The inspector called the violations a “health hazard.”
The kitchen remained closed for nearly 48 hours.
Several re-inspections took place before the all-clear was given by the city health department.
But the kitchen at Stripes isn’t out of the woods just yet.
The chief inspector said he would be keeping a close eye on the business to ensure public health safety.
