Andrea Moreno has a major problem with the state of the street that runs by her house.

"It starts corroding more and more," said Moreno about a hole sitting in the middle of Seventh Street off of Alamo Street in San Benito.

"I have a 5, 4, and 3 year old and they could get hurt."

That’s because the hole is about 10 feet deep and takes up more than half of Seventh Street and has been surrounded by caution tape and safety netting since January.

It’s closed to traffic and has become a major inconvenience for the people who live in the area.

"I have to go completely around the block just to get to my house," said Moreno.

The massive hole is also posing a threat to their livelihood which became evident when Moreno's family member was in need of medical care and the ambulance couldn't get to her.

"I did try to explain to EMS that there was a barricade, but somehow they came down this way and they had to stop, literally stop."

The problem started with a small hole, but because of movement above ground and alleged poor construction underground, it's become the largest hole the Pothole Patrol has ever encountered.

Andrea says the problem is being ignored by city leaders.

"I don't see a sense of urgency with them. If they can't fix it now that the weather is good, how am I supposed to believe they will fix it when the weather is bad," said Moreno.

The Pothole Patrol took her complaints straight to the San Benito Mayor Joe Hernandez who tells us a meeting will be held Tuesday to get to the bottom of the problem.

According to Hernandez, the work is under warranty which is why the city is waiting for the company who did faulty work on a sewer line under ground to fix it.

He said the repairs to the massive hole will be happening sometime soon.
