Arizona passed it. So did Alabama and even Louisiana is getting close to passing a law allowing local police to deal with illegal immigration.

Senate Bill 9, which will all law enforcement to ask anyone for documentation on their legal status, has been talked about in the Texas Legislature for quite some time now.

But with a vote just around the corner those against the bill are starting to get some Rio Grande Valley residents worried.

Marta Sanchez with La Union del Pueblo Entero (LUPE) in Hidalgo County spokes with Action 4 News about the bill.

Sanchez said she and dozens of others are fasting and will hop on a bus and head to the Texas State Capitol on Wednesday morning.

They will rally on the steps of the Capitol and bring with them thousands of signed letters from Texans, in opposition to SB 9 to lawmakers.

Those who can't go to the Capitol will fast on the LUPE headquarters in San Juan.

If SB 9 is passed, Sanchez said she believes more funds will have to be spent on local police departments as they try and do their job along with the job of immigration.

Sanchez said local law enforcement should be focusing more on border violence and not illegal immigration.

What do you think?
Do you support Senate Bill 9, which would allow local police to enforce immigration laws?
