Rio Grande Valley law enforcement officials are on alert following reports of gunfire and a Mexican military helicopter spotted south of the Los Indios International Bridge.
Border Patrol officials officials told Action 4 News that agents along the Rio Grande heard gunfire and observed a Mexican military helicopter flying south of the bridge.
A Mexican law enforcement official speaking anonymously reported that a gun battle started around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The law enforcement official reported that incident involved Mexican soldiers and an army helicopter.
The official reported that the incident had already ended by 2:30 p.m. Tuesday but it's not clear if there were casualties or wounded.
The gunfire reportedly took place a few miles south of the international bridge near the community of Lucio Blanco where another battle had taken place about two weeks ago.
According to the Border Wait Times website, traffic the incident did not affect traffic at the Los Indios bridge.
