Peace and quiet have returned south of the border in Reynosa where officials confirmed a shootout on the city's westside.
Reynosa residents first reported on Twitter that they heard gunfire in the Colonia Granjas Economicas del Norte around 4 p.m. Monday.
City officials confirmed a few minutes later that there was a "situation of risk" on a roadway passing through the neighborhood and asked residents to avoid the area.
It's not clear if there are casualties or anybody wounded but witnesses reported federal police were at the scene.
The shootout took place at the end of Boulevard Hidalgo, which splits into a highway leaded to Monterrey, a road leading to the Anzalduas International Bridge and highway leading to Matamoros.
Some residents reported on Twitter that armed men stormed a women's & children's hospital in a separate skirmish near the Broncos Bridge but authorities have not confirmed those incidents.
Reynosa city officials reported that the "situation of risk" on the city's westside ended around 5:10 p.m. Monday.
