A Reynosa man is behind bars after he allegedly tried to smuggle more than $744,000 dollars worth of cocaine in his truck's tailgate.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested Geronimo Garcia-Garcia on federal drug charges on Tuesday afternoon.

The 45-year-old man drove up from Mexico at Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge in a Ford Ranger pickup truck around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Customs officers sent his truck to secondary inspection where a K-9 officer alerted authorities to the presence of drugs.

Investigators allegedly found 10 packages with 23.2 pounds of cocaine worth $744,978 hidden in the tailgate of his truck.

Garcia-Garcia told authorities that was supposed to get paid $800 dollars to deliver the drugs to a location in the United States.

The Reynosa man appeared before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge Peter Ormsby in McAllen on Wednesday morning.

Court records show that Garcia-Garcia is a Mexican national who lives in Reynosa.

Judge Ormsby denied bond for Garcia-Garcia until a hearing next Tuesday morning.
