Three Tamaulipas State Police officers and one group leader found themselves on the other side of the law after being accused of taking part of a Zetas kidnapping ring.
The Mexican Navy reported that marines arrested the four law enforcement officials in a special operation in Ciudad Victoria on Thursday.
Navy officials reported that authorities had received extortion and kidnapping complaints against the four men.
Marines arrested officers Antonio Luis Gomez-Perez, Nelson Muñoz-Lucio and David Alexander Manriquez-Gomez while each of them were aboard Tamaulipas State Police patrol units.
The three men told investigators that police group leader Fernando Lara-Castelan worked directly for the Zetas and was in charge of local kidnapping and extortion schemes.
Navy officials said marines arrested Lara-Castelan at his home where he was recovering from a bullet wound he received from a shootout with a murder suspect back in March.
