Cocaine, cash seized in Southmost raid

Two men are behind bars following a raid at a Southmost home were authorities found more than 50 pounds of cocaine and thousands of dollars in cash.

Brownsville police arrested 22-year-old Alfonso Melendez and 23-year-old Armando Jesus Martinez Rodriguez on drug charges on Tuesday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the Brownsville Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit and the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations Unit led the raid.

Authorities obtained consent to search a home at 709 Truman Drive where officials found 20 bundles of cocaine.

Officers also found $5,360 dollars in cash.

Both Melendez and Rodriguez provided full confessions implicating each other.
