A Laureles area mother is out on bond after she allegedly left an 8-month-old baby and two other children home alone.
Cameron County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested 28-year-old Beanira Cervantes on three counts of child abandonment on Saturday.
Deputies were called out a home in Cameron Park around 10 a.m. Saturday.
The family of Cevantes’ ex-husband Ramiro Iracheta’s told deputies that she had left the couple’s 8-month-old daughter home alone with her two half-brothers.
Iracheta’s family went to Cervantes’ rural home near the intersection of FM 510 and County Road 803 and picked up all three children.
Deputies learned that Cervantes had left home at 6 p.m. Friday and been in Edinburg to take care of some legal documents and came back Saturday morning.
Cervantes told deputies that she asked a neighbor to watch the children from her home but did not take the kids over to the neighbor's house.
Instead, Cervantes said the neighbor was, "watching them from her residence."
The 28-year-old mother of three appeared before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Luis Saenz on Sunday morning where he was issued $22,500 dollars in bonds.
Jail records show that Cervantes posted bond on Monday morning.
