A former Cameron County Judge is seeking to become the Lone Star State’s top Democrat.

Brownsville-based attorney Gilberto Hinojosa has filed officially filed to run as the Texas Democratic Party Chair.

HInojosa is currently the party chair for Cameron County and has climbed the ranks in state party circles.

The Democratic Party primaries are expected to be held in 2012.

Hinojosa reported that he filed with the Texas Ethics Commission to become an official candidate on Thursday.
