Cameron County District Attorney Armando Villalobos is considering seeking higher office.

Villalobos told Action 4 News he is considering running for congress and has officially formed an exploratory committee.

The Cameron County District Attorney created an event on his personal Facebook page announcing a reception for his new exploratory committee.

The event is scheduled to be held at the  Hilton Garden Inn on South Padre Island at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 13th.

Villalobos told Action 4 News that he cannot declare himself as a candidate without having to resign from his post. as district attorney.

The Texas Legislature has not finished the redistricting process but many are wondering if lawmakers will create a completely new district for the Rio Grande Valley.

Villalobos said his possible candidacy would depend on the new district boundaries, funding and support from the community.
