Many across the nation are paying tribute to those men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice to fight the war on terror.

One of them is army soldier Kristian Menchaca., a former student of Porter High School in Brownsville.

Students at this school have mixed reactions to the death of Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden.

Some said they feel a sense of happiness while others say we shouldn't rejoice in the death of another.

Seniors at Porter High School were just second graders at the time of the 9-11 attacks.

They've grown up in the midst of this war on terrorism, which they say has played a significant role in shaping the way they view the world.

They've also witnessed how terrorism hurts.

A portrait of Menchaca sits in the principal's office for all to see.

Senior Jonathan Burlette said it’s hard to cheer for the death of human being, even if it’s Bin Laden.

"He's the guy responsible and founder of Al-Qaeda and it's probably a good thing that he's dead but then again part of me is kind of sad to see so many people rejoicing in the death of a man however horrible his actions may have been,” Burlett said.

Senior Christian Ochoa said Bin Laden deserved to die based on his actions.

"In my opinion, the death was more than well deserved,” Ochoa said. “I mean all the torture and terror that he's caused throughout the past years and all the people that he's killed and helped kill all…but a the same time it's not really over."

Porter High School teacher Tito Mata taught Menchaca.

"Finally, Porter High School can rest,” Mata said.

Mata went on to say that a portrait of the fallen that sits in the principal's office still brings tears to his eyes.

Action 4 News spoke to Menchaca's mother who says nothing will take away the pain of losing her son but was satisfied to learn of Bin Laden's death.
