A group of animal advocates from Brownsville came to the rescue of a horse named Panda after a story on Action 4 News first reported about suspected animal neglect.
"I took your report off your Facebook page and posted it to my page. That's when Amy and some other animal advocates jumped in on the conversation to see what we could do to help this horse," said Teresa Saldivar.
Amy Beale owned a horse and wants Panda to have a better life than this.
"She needs help. She's incredibly skinny. Her hooves are dry, she's leaning on her heels, and too much of her bones are protruding where they shouldn't be," said Beale. "Honestly, she's not being cared for I want to get her out of here where she can get the care she needs."
The group of women wanted to take their concerns straight to Panda's owner and we did.
“At first I thought, why would someone do this, but it's great because now she’s (Panda) going to get good care," said Panda’s owner Cande Guerrero.
He said he got Panda as a gift and that he doesn't know how to properly care for her.
"I understand the concern of the people and I really appreciate any help. I've been trying to care of her," said Guerrero.
The animal advocates volunteered to give Panda a new home and get her treatment from a veterinarian.
Guerrero agreed to it.
The group will take care of all of the logistics of moving her and placing her in a comfortable environment.
"His efforts to take care of the horse were genuine and he did a good job, but he's not a horse person.
He's willing to let us help so we are very happy with the outcome of the situation," said Saldivar.
Her owner just had one request, to be able to visit the horse he says he loves very much.
"I like the ending. I appreciate the people who are going to help me out, it's awesome."
