McAllen's Salvation Army to end free lunch program amid budget woes

Everyday 60 to 70 people walk through the doors of the Salvation Army in McAllen for lunch and are served a hot meal.

For many, it’s the only one they're going to get.

But now that's being taken away.

Officials told Action 4 News that a budget shortfall is leaving them no choice.

The McAllen shelter has been waiting for money from the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) for months.

The Salvation Army will stop serving their lunch meal starting Monday, April 18th.
