The food choices at Golden Corral in Weslaco may be plentiful, but so are the demerits on a recent initial health inspection report.
The restaurant on 300 West Expressway 83 scored 48 demerits.
A public complaint about cold food and a dirty restaurant sparked the city check up.
Inspectors found off temperature food, expired fish and chicken, a cross contamination of foods and dirty kitchen conditions.
Golden Corral’s kitchen manager, Michael Ortiz, didn’t hide what sparked the problems when the Food Patrol came looking for answers into the dirty dining.
Ryan: Why did it take the health dept. to get it cleaned up?
Michael: We have different issues with new employees… training is key… so we did a lot of changes in the store… we changed employees and retrained the people.
The quick changes paid off.
A reinspection at the restaurant turned up just 8 demerits.
