As Texas state lawmakers look to slash funding for education, one organization asking superintendents and other administrators to slash their pay.
Americans For Prosperity, a self-described taxpayer advocacy group, says education leaders should voluntarily support the cuts.
The group is asking superintendents and others to their own salaries, perks and for school districts to keep every teacher.
Education is the largest line item in the Texas state budget and will most likely face billions of dollars in cuts.
Americans For Prosperity added that lawmakers will have the final say on the cuts but they say superintendents and administrators are the educational leaders of state.
A previous story on VALLEYCENTRAL.COM, revealed that pay for Rio Grande Valley superintendents ranges from $225,750 to $40,533 dollars.
Daniel King with the PSJA Independent School District is the Valley's highest paid superintendent with a $225,750 base pay salary.
King is followed by superintendents in Progreso, Weslaco, Brownsville in La Joya school districts.
The lowest paid superintendents from the Valley are from La Villa, Lasara, Santa Maria, Monte Alto and San Perlita.
